R U OK? Day, help start more conversations this year!

R U OK? Day is a national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that we’ve all got what it takes to ask, “are you ok?” and support those struggling with life.

Taking part can be as simple as learning R U OK?’s four steps so you can have a conversation that could change a life.

Staying connected and having meaningful conversations is something we can all do. You don't need to be an expert - just a great mate and a good listener. So, if you notice someone who might be struggling - start a conversation.

September 14th marks ‘R U Ok Day’. We know that suicide prevention is an enormously complex and sensitive challenge. By asking the simple question “Are you ok?” may be the first step in preventing a downward slope.

The hardest part can be getting the courage to ask, see below link for some ways to assist in this process

With a mission to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with people around them and support anyone struggling with life, R U OK Day is a fantastic opportunity for family, friends and workmates to reconnect, start a conversation and make a promise to be there for each other more often.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44, with around 3,000 people dying by suicide every year. That's an average of eight people every day.1 For every suicide, there are tragic ripple effects for friends, families, colleagues and the broader community.

If someone you know seems to be struggling, reach out and connect with them. Showing that you care could make a huge difference in their life. If you are struggling yourself, you might feel better if you reach out for support, get treatment and start taking steps towards recovery.

With over 3 million Australians living with anxiety or depression, mental health is a serious health issue, our GPs and medical team are here to support and advise you and your loved ones. If you have any concerns please contact our team at Mariners Medical today.
